World EV Day: the cost of an electric car is largely decided before production begins This year's #WorldEVDay theme is driving down the cost of motoring. Most of that conversation is about battery prices, charging and purchase incentives. Less of it is about the design stage, where the majority of a vehicle's cost is fixed, years before the first unit is built. Our work with a large automotive supplier took a core powertrain component design process down from 6-month to four weeks, using 35% less magnet material and saving 17% on the bill of materials. Savings are often driven by a reduction in the amount of rare earth materials with no loss of performance. Engineering AI makes this possible by evaluating millions of viable designs for cost, efficiency and performance before a team commits to one. Electric motors are the underlying technology that makes physical AI possible.  At the current rate of investment and technical development, robots, autonomous cars and autonomous drones will be commonplace within years and you won’t see a humanoid running around with a combustion engine on its back.     Monumo’s future is firmly in designing these increasingly complex systems. Optimise a single component with Anser AI and the projects we've run so far show cost reductions of around 5%.
